About Samoeng Tai
The Mae Sap and Samoeng region (Samoeng Tai) is absolutely stunning mountain forest area with some beautiful National Park areas and is famous for its strawberries, which can be found in abundance usually between early December and late March. Doi Nok Strawberry Resort grows its strawberries to be truly organic, grown to the regulations and standards of the EU Soil Association.
There is an annual Strawberry Festival, the biggest in Thailand, which coincides with Valentine's Day and a couple of days either side of it. The ceremony typically starts with an opening ceremony and parade, with local performances of music and dance.
The area is about as Thai as possible, with only the occasional Westerner in sight which means it is great for exploring the real Thailand away from any tacky commercialisation and areas specifically staged to be ‘authentic’ for the tourist trade.
The town of Samoeng has a local market every day, but on every Monday the hill tribes come down to sell their fare. It is a wonderful sight to see as they are dressed in their usual, traditional attire.
Samoeng itself has a police station and a hospital as well as a number of schools.
